St George Greens Bike Plan
Aims:
- To enable easy commuting by bicycle to high employment zones within 15km
- Safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists within the St George area
- To encourage cycling to local centres of business
- To encourage safe cycling to, from and in between schools, trains stations, sports grounds, libraries and other public facilities
Strategic proposals
- Princess Highway bridge crossing at Tempe – proposal for repurposing of the utilities bridge alonside as a dedicated cycleway connecting north and south of the Cooks River
- Wolli Creek development – a very high traffic zone, Rockdale council has proposed cycleways through the area, however on road cycleways are never safe, a dedicated separated cycleway is needed for safety
- Brighton Le Sands – an increasingly high cycling traffic area, shared pathways are no longer proving safe for pedestrians, a separated cycleway is needed around the bay, linking parks, sports fields and business areas.
- M5 corridor cycleway to Cooks River via Hughs Park – currently this route is fraught with on road, mixed traffic areas and needs a smoother flow for commuters.
- North South St George Cycleway – proposed separated arterial cycleway from Kingsgrove, down Croydon Road through Kogarah (past railway station, TAFE) and on to Botany Bay, connecting with existing Bayside routes. This arterial would provide a “spine” for connecting key areas, including Hurstville to Kogarah long term.
- Connecting the Bayside cycleway to Taren Point road bridge and then south to Miranda, this could be partly along the proposed Bay Light Express route.
