The ICAC's finding of corrupt conduct against former Labor MP Eddie Obeid, former Minister Joe Tripodi and former NSW Maritime chief executive Steve Dunn is yet more evidence of a broken political system in NSW that needs urgent and extensive reform, according to Greens NSW MP John Kaye.
Dr Kaye said: "ICAC has exposed an entrenched culture of abuse of public office that prospered because of an inadequate system of disclosure of conflicts of interest.
"The dying years of the previous NSW Labor administration became an entitlement free-for-all, that inflicted costs on the economy and the budget and untold damage to public confidence in government.
"However this is not just a Labor problem.
"It is a certainty that it will happen again unless there are substantial changes to the transparency of the financial affairs of MPs and their families.
"Premier Mike Baird must show that the culture has been stamped out to begin restoring public confidence in the political system.
"As a minimum, all MPs should be required to disclose the financial affairs of all of their family members.
"This state urgently needs a new set of barriers to make it much harder to hide the proceeds of corrupt dealings.
