I want to thank all the people that helped out in our campaign for the Hurstville Ward by-election on 15th March. There were those that helped on polling day, and those that helped at pre-poll and before the poll. Some are Greens from outside our group, some who are not members, but support our cause and of course our own members.
The final result ended with Brent Thomas ALP winning with around 57%, the Lib candidate, Tim Feng got around 30%, we managed 6.42% and the Independent, Frank Wang just under 6%
I rang Brent on Sunday to congratulate him on his success and to say that I hoped he followed through on his election commitments. It was interesting that The Leader article on 18th March about the result was sub-titled “New councillor wants transparency”. Let’s hope that happens.
We managed to get all booths covered for the majority of the day, and all were fully manned all morning.
I felt voters were not negative to us, but our message is not cutting through, we need to do more to engage voters.
